There are thousands of new books being published every day , but many self-published books quickly sink to the bottom of the pile. Many authors are frustrated because there are so many options for self-publishing, and they don't know which one to choose or what will be best for their book. Others spend thousands of dollars to publish and end up broken-hearted with the result. But it doesn't have to be this way. I've spent over a decade self-publishing bestselling fiction and non-fiction books and in 2011, i left my day job to become a full-time author-entrepreneur. I've made lots of mistakes along the way, but through the process of self-publishing 30+ books, i've learned the most effective way to publish and market your books.

It explains what you need to have to be able to traditionally publish (basically you must have an audience of least 25k+ people waiting to buy your book specifically).

Welcome to Kindle Direct Publishing

Hello, joshua ! i am so happy that you are interested in writing a book for publishing. You have an advantage being in new york city where the main publishers are, but self-publishing is very much a good idea. If you want to self-publish a hard copy book that people can hold in their hand, you can consider print on demand companies that will expedite your book. You can try kindle direct publishing, ingram spark, blurb, the book patch (link below) and book baby. Do not hesitate to also submit your manuscript to the big publishers in your town such as penguin random house, hachette book group, scholastic corporation (if it is a children's book), seven stories press, soho press, manhattan book group, beacon publishing group.

In addition to being the world’s largest retailer of books, amazon has now become one of the biggest self-publishing platforms out there with it’s kindle direct publishing (kdp) service. And while “kindle” is in their name, they don’t only publish kindle editions of your book. Amazon kdp now publishes paperback books as well. We use kdp to publish all of our books (in combination with ingramspark), and highly recommend them for any author who wants a simple, professional self-publishing experience. The downside of publishing on amazon kdp is that your book will only be available on amazon’s sites (but it can be globally distributed) and the author royalties are lower than some of its competitors.
